Taking something down
If you hold the rights to something on this site and you want it gone, it goes. Within 48 hours of a request that identifies you and the work. There is no form to fill in, no counter-argument and no attempt to talk you out of it.
What to send
Email the address on the contact page with:
- The page or pages, by URL.
- The work concerned.
- Who you are and what your relationship to the rights is. A company email or a link to a page that connects you to the work is plenty; notarised anything is not required.
That is the whole process. A reply confirming removal follows.
Where this site stands
macemu hosts three kinds of thing. Software released by its author or publisher — Marathon, Glider PRO, Kid Pix 1.0 — is here with permission that is a matter of public record, and those are linked from the page in question.
Software whose publisher has ceased to exist, or which has not been commercially available for decades, is here on the same footing as the Internet Archive's software collections and Macintosh Garden: preserved because otherwise it disappears. That is a practical position, not a legal claim. Nobody here believes abandonment transfers copyright.
Software that is still sold is never hosted. If a title is commercially available today and you find it running here, that is a mistake — report it and it will be removed the same day.
System software and ROMs
The emulators need Apple's ROM code and system software to boot, exactly as the original hardware did. These are Apple's and are not claimed otherwise. The same files have been distributed by the Internet Archive, Macintosh Garden and the Infinite Mac project for years. If Apple asks, they come down and the site says so plainly on every affected page.
